Introduction

This document reviews how to enable Bitstreaming HD audio on LiivStreamer Media Players.

Applies to

This article is applicable for supported Media Players as listed here:

Pre-requisite

To enjoy bitstreaming HD audio, the LiivStreamer must be connected to a receiver that is capable of decoding HD audio bitstreams such as:

  • Dolby Digital (5.1)
  • DTS (5.1)
  • Dolby True HD (7.1)
  • DTS-HD / DTS-MA (7.1)
  • ..and other HD Audio sound codecs.

Without a receiver that can decode the Bitstreaming audio, DO NOT enable this feature.  Otherwise, there will be no sound when music plays back.

Procedure

Enable Bitstreaming Audio

  • Starting from the main menu, go into SYSTEM > SETTINGS

  • Select SYSTEM at the bottom

  • Scroll all the way down to the bottom, and highlight the "SETTINGS LEVEL: Standard"

  • Keep pressing OK on the remote until it shows "SETTINGS LEVEL: Expert"

  • Next, scroll up and choose AUDIO OUTPUT [1]

  • Then, scroll right and highlight Audio Output Device [2]
  • Click OK on the remote to show Audio Output Device options
  • Select the entry that shows "Your Receiver Name" on HDMI (shown below), then click OK.

  • Then, scroll down on the list, and CHECK the box for ENABLE PASSTHROUGH [1]
  • On "Passthrough Output Device" - select the appropriate option for your HDMI receiver / setup [2]
  • From here, check the boxes as shown to enable bitstream passthrough for the listed formats:
    - CHECK: Dolby Digital (AC3) [3]
    - CHECK: Dolby Digital (E-AC3) [4]
    - CHECK: DTS [5]
    - CHECK: TrueHD [6]
    - CHECK: DTS-HD [7]
    - Press BACK to save these changes.

  • Once the above changes are made, RESTART the Media Player
  • Once the Main Screen is shown, start a movie with the Bitstreaming format you would like to test
  • Bitstreaming should now be activated for this player

Disable Bitstreaming Audio

  • To turn off Bitstreaming, simply reverse the steps above.
    • Go into SYSTEM > SETTINGS
    • Select SYSTEM at the bottom
    • Choose AUDIO OUTPUT
    • UNCHECK: Enable Bitstreaming
    • Once the proper changes are made, RESTART the Media Player
    • Once the Main Screen is shown, start a movie with the Bitstreaming format you would like to test
    • Bitstreaming is now DISABLED / de-activated for this player
